Vasodilators
Coronary vasodilators
?@Adalat (Nifedipine 10 mg capsules)
?AHerbesser (Diltiazem HCI 30 mg tablets)
?BConiel (Benidipine HCI 4 mg tablets)
Coronary vasodilators improve the symptoms and signs of angina pectoris by reducing the load on the heart through coronary vasodilation. These drugs also dilate the peripheral blood vessels and thus are also used for the treatment of hypertension.
Indications: Primary and secondary prevention of angina pectoris. Hypertension.
Dosage:?@10 mg (1 tablet) 3 times daily after meals. ?A30 mg (1 tablet) 3 times daily after meals. When an adequate response is not obtained, the dose may be increased to 60 mg (2 tablets). ?B4 mg (1 tablet) twice daily after breakfast and the evening meal.
Precautions: 1. Coronary vasodilators may cause headache, facial flushing, hot flushes, a feeling of warmth, skin rash, hypotension, and dizziness.
2. Concomitant intake of grapefruit is prohibited, because grapefruit juice inhibits the metabolism of these drugs.
Storage: Protected from light at room temperature.

 

Nitrates
?@Nitropen (Nitroglycerin tablets 0.3 mg)
?ANitroglycerin (Nitroglycerin tablets 0.3 mg)
?BNitorol (Isosorbide dinitrate tablets 5 mg)
Nitrates dilate the coronary arteries and thus increase the myocardial oxygen supply. This results in the improvement of impaired cardiac function and the relief of anginal pain.
Indications: Angina pectoris and myocardial infarction.
Dosage: ?@&?AA sublingual dose of 1-2 tablets for the relief of an acute angina attack. Nitroglycerin tablets must not be swallowed. When an adequate response is not obtained within several minutes, an additional sublingual dose of 1 tablet should be administered. When an adequate response is not obtained after the additional dose, another tablet should be given. ?B1-2 tablets 3-4 times daily for the prevention of angina attacks. A sublingual dose of 1-2 tablets for the relief of an acute angina attack.
Precautions: Nitrates may cause headache, dizziness, palpitations, and facial flushing.
Storage: Protected from light at temperature below 20℃.

 

Isoxsuprine hydrochloride
Duvadilan (Isoxsuprine HCI tablets 10 mg)
Isoxsuprine hydrochloride suppresses abnormal uterine contraction and spasm.
Indications: Abortion and dysmenorrhea.
Dosage: 10-20 mg (1-2 tablets) 3 times daily. For the treatment of dysmenorrhea, 10-20 mg (1-2 tablets) 3 times daily for 1-3 days prior to the expected onset of the menstrual period.
Precautions: Isoxsuprine may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, transient hypotension, headache, dizziness, facial flushing, and rarely skin rashes.
Storage: At room temperature.

 

Diuretics
Furosemide
Lasix (Furosemide tablets 20 mg)
Furosemide reduces body fluid by increasing the urine output and is therefore effective for the treatment of edema. The drug usually induces urination within 1 hour and its diuretic effect lasts for about 6 hours. (The dose should be adjusted so that the daily weight loss is 0.5-1 kg.)
Indications: Renal edema, congestive heart failure, and edema associated with liver cirrhosis. Hypertension.
Dosage: 40-60-80 mg (2-3-4 tablets) once daily or on alternate days.
Precautions: 1. Sufficient care should be taken when furosemide is administered to patients with acute renal failure, gout,or diabetes mellitus. (The drug should be used as directed by Radio Medical Communications.)
2. Furosemide may cause nausea, dry mouth, weakness, anorexia, diarrhea, hepatic damage, nephropathy, and hypersensitivity.
3. To avoid nocturia, furosemide should be administered during the daytime.
Storage: Protected from light at room temperature.
